1937 Cromwell (by Gibson) GM-6 Mandolin

Cromwell was one of the brands Gibson crafted during the years prior to WWII, to allow non-Gibson dealers to offer Gibson made instruments. There were many models of Cromwell guitars, but only three Cromwell mandolin models, including this very rare Florentine style mandolin. This creation, based on the Gibson F models, has the “lump” scroll which later appeared in 1971 A-5. The top is solid spruce with a wildly figured maple back and sides with binding on the top and back, as well as surrounding the finger board, featuring the distinctive Cromwell white center stripe.

This crack-free instrument has been well played since it left Kalamazoo nearly 90 years ago, with a straight neck and little fret wear. It’s a very rare model (less than a dozen in existence) with that distinctive woody Gibson tone.

$4,250 with hard case.
