Close friends since 1965 when Grisman placed his Lloyd Loar F-5 mandolin into 13-year old Bush’s hands, this most dynamic string duo has created an acoustic tour de force. These three legendary bluegrass musicians called upon veteran banjo player and vocalist supreme Herb Pedersen to fill the slot left vacant by the late Jerry Garcia. Dawg & Danny discuss and listen to selections from Livin’ With the Blues Deluxe Edition, fiddle giant Vassar Clements’ last recording project that Dawg produced with Norton Buffalo. Vassar Clements’ fiddle playing has always been steeped in the blues, and this recording teams him up with blues heroes Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, Maria Muldaur, Roy Rogers, David Jacob-Strain, Marc Silber and others in a variety of tunes from Skip James to Bessie Smith and Booker T & the MGs.

To mark their 50th podcast, Dawg & Danny discuss and listen to selections from The Original David Grisman Quintet – First Recordings, recorded in Dawg’s living room, 50 years ago! This tape from the Dawg Archives, was originally made as a demo of this ground-breaking ensemble with David Grisman and Todd Phillips (mandolins), Tony Rice (guitar), Darol Anger (violin) and Joe Carroll (bass), playing tunes which have now become “dawg classics.”
