1946 Martin D-28 Guitar

This Dreadnought, made in the last year of the herringbone binding, is one of the best sounding Martins I’ve owned. As you can see, it has been played! There’s a spot next to the bridge, where the wear went below the surface, that was filled with epoxy. The fingerboard and bridge may have been replaced and probably a neck reset before I acquired it many years ago. It has a glued “pickguard crack” and some of the finish has worn off, but it remains a very stable tone machine. This guitar has earned the title of “distressed” — the honest playing wear that many companies now try to duplicate and charge extra for (which I never could fathom). I love the way this guitar looks, plays and sounds.

$34,500 with recent Martin Deluxe hard case or red Calton case for an additional $500.
