1988 Richelieu Desert Rose 5-string Banjo

Richelieu banjos are high-quality, American-made instruments crafted by the professional banjoist Clyde C. (C.C.) Richelieu. Handcrafted in Oregon, Wisconsin, for nearly 50 years until the business closed in the early 2010s, they are highly regarded by traditional and jazz musicians for their bright tone, volume, and stunning visual artistry.

This banjo was probably a custom order, and  quite fancy with gold plated hardware (including two Keith-Scrugg tuners,  and an engraved “Pecos Bill” armrest), a 3-piece flame maple neck, Oettinger style tailpiece and a wood marquetry rose inlaid into the figured walnut resonator. The Richelieu arch-top tone ring produces a full, bright tone, comparable to a Gibson mastertone, This rare 5-string banjo is in excellent condition and plays easily with a straight neck and minimal fret wear.
