LIVE for the FIRST TIME!
The Rice Brothers
On April 6, 1991 the four Rice Brothers took the stage in Fairfax, Virginia for their first public appearance together. Although Larry and Tony played together as part of J.D Crowe's New South, and Ronnie played with the Larry Rice Band, and Wyatt was in the Tony Rice Unit, all four had never been on stage together until this special evening of bluegrass music, sponsored by WAMU-FM.
They were joined in this performance by the legendary banjo player Bill Emerson, their uncle, dobro player extraordinaire Frank Poindexter and Tony Rice Unit fiddler, Rickie Simpkins. This band would only perform publicly three more times, but this first appearance was inspired and, fortunately for us, well recorded!
