MIKE SEEGER

Mike Seeger was destined to become a musician. The son of musicologists Charles and Ruth Crawford Seeger, he is also the brother of two of America’s greatest folk singers, Pete and Peggy Seeger. And in fact, Mike’s whole life has been surrounded by the sounds of traditional folk music.

Mike started producing records at the age of 23 and has been a member of the “New Lost City Ramblers” since its inception over 40 years ago. Mike has probably done more to promote traditional music than any other single person in American history. He learned his craft from masters such as Maybelle Carter, Dock Boggs, Elizabeth Cotton and others.

A historian, lecturer and author, Mike’s contributions have been recognized by the Smithsonian Institution, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Rex Foundation, among others.
