I'M BEGINNING TO SEE THE LIGHT - MASTER TAKES
Martin Taylor and David Grisman
Scottish guitar virtuoso Martin Taylor and mandolin maven David Grisman front an extraordinary Acoustic Jazz Quartet for their 1999 release, I’m Beginning to See the Light. With the impeccable rhythm section accompaniment of DGQ alumni Jim Kerwin on bass and George Marsh on drums, they have created a string-jazz milestone. Taylor and Grisman also collaborated previously on Tone Poems II, a historic look at both jazz and the great acoustic archtop guitars and mandolins. The interplay developed during those sessions — and subsequent live performances — is evident in their playing on this album, bringing new vitality to classic jazz standards.
Acoustic renditions of "Autumn in New York," "Willow Weep for Me," "East of the Sun," "Lover Man" and eight others exhibit rare depth and sensitivity. The music is inventive and inspired, with the quartet melding into a tight, unified sound that belies the improvisational nature of this project. I'm Beginning to See the Light was recorded "live" directly to 2-track analog by David Dennison and is sonically one of the best recordings created by Acoustic Disc. This edition contains the original 12 Master tracks in the high-definition (24 bit, 96 khz) format.
