THE MAN WITH THE VIOLIN

Stephane Grappelli with the Diz Disley Trio

On September 26, 1976 the legendary master of jazz violin, Stephane Grappelli, played to a packed house at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. His band, the Diz Disley Trio included two celebrated guitarists from England — Diz Disley and Ike Isaacs along with a young bass virtuoso from Chicago, Brian Torff. The incredible music that night was masterfully captured in high definition sound by the famed GAMH soundman Lee Brenkman.

Both complete shows are included here, featuring inspired playing by one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, captured in his prime. As producer David Grisman put it, “Hearing Stephane for the first time in person at these performances was a transformative experience for me and one which would ultimately change my musical life. Just two years later I would begin a collaboration with him on the music I composed for the film, King of the Gypsies as well as subsequent concerts and recordings which continued for many years. It’s my great pleasure to share these magical musical moments with you now.’”
