Going Up On the Mountain is comprised of the first two solo recordings by Jody Stecher —Snake Baked Hoecake (1973) and Going Up On the Mountain (1974) — originally released as LPs on Bay Records. Jody is a Grammy nominated singer and instrumentalist who is regarded as one of America's leading traditional folk artists.

These recordings have become folk classics over the years. Snake Baked a Hoecake has inspired many younger musicians to take up old-time music, and Going Up On the Mountain features the first duet recorded by Jody and his wife and longtime singing partner, Kate Brislin, as well as guest appearances by John Herald, Eric Thompson, Fred Sokolow and others. Notable tracks on Going Up On the Mountain include the traditional "Oh the Wind and Rain," "Way Downtown," "Wild Bill Jones," “The Blind Fiddler” and Bob McDill's country classic, “Amanda.”
