In November of 1922, the Gibson company introduced a new line of acoustic instruments called “Master Models” that would have a profound and indelible affect on American musicians and the music they would create in the 20th century. They were all signed by Gibson’s acoustic engineer, the now legendary Lloyd Loar. 

This unique recording features the sound of two prime examples of the Loar “Master Model” F-5 mandolin played on their 100th birthdays by David Grisman. “Happy Birthday” and “Turn of the Century” are rendered as solos on both instruments and “The Parrot” and “Crusher’s Cruise” were composed and played on their namesakes, while “A Bicycle Built for Two” features both in three keys, both solo and duet inspired by Nat King Cole’s classic 1963 rendition. This is a must have for all vintage instrument enthusiasts.
