These recently discovered spirited performances of bluegrass instrumentals were recorded by Tony Rice in David Grisman’s living room in 1976, and featured members of the newly-formed DGQ with a fine banjo player, Robert Bowden. The music is vibrant and played with great spontaneity, including tunes by Bill Monroe, Jesse McReynolds and Frank Wakefield and many traditional pieces. New Smokey Grass Boys was the way the master tape was labeled and it was transferred in the sonically superior hi-definition format. After nearly 50 years, we’re happy to make this unique recording available for all to enjoy.
