If you’ve seen Francis Ford Copolla’s cinematic epic, The Godfather, you’ve seen (and heard) Giovanni Vicari playing the mandolin in its famed wedding scene. Now, more than half a century after that appearance, Acoustic Disc’s David Grisman has the honor of curating the recorded legacy of this amazing musician and composer. Vicari, who migrated to the United States from Sicily at the age of 20 in 1925, performed and recorded for nearly six decades. This first ever digital collection is a wide-ranging sampler of that work. These tracks are masterpieces of Italian string virtuosity on mandolin, tenor banjo and guitar. It’s with great pride that Acoustic Disc is introducing this music to discerning listeners in the 21st century.
