Sam Grisman Project

Sam Grisman made his first recording as a bass player at the age of eight with his dad, John Hartford and Mike Seeger, for the Acoustic Disc project, Retrograss. He played and toured for many years with the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, the Dawg Trio and many others. In 2022 he created the Sam Grisman Project to celebrate the music that he grew up with, and to highlight it’s influence on his bandmates and the greater acoustic music community.

The 20 tracks on this self-titled collection feature Sam on bass and vocals with a distinguished ensemble of longtime friends and collaborators — Victor Furtado (banjo), Dominick Leslie (mandolin), Nat Smith (cello), Max Flansburg (guitar and vocals), fiddlers Alex Hargreaves (Billy Strings), John Mailander (Bruce Hornsby) and Nate Leath with featured guest vocalists Tim O’Brien, Logan Ledger and Lindsay Lou. The album unfolds much like the band’s acoustic live show, weaving together revered classics from Bob Dylan; Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter, along with traditional and original material arranged by Grisman who says, “I’m excited to share this sonic snapshot of some of my favorite music and musicians with the community of friends and music appreciators we are so lucky to be a part of.”
