THE BLUEGRASS QUINTET LIVE IN JAPAN
The Bluegrass Quintet
In May, 1976, David Grisman brought two bands to Japan for his first tour in that country. One was the newly-formed David Grisman Quintet (DGQ) and the other was an all-star bluegrass ensemble billed simply as 'The Bluegrass Quintet.' Members of this band included DGQ members Tony Rice and Todd Phillips (on string bass) in addition to special guests and Muleskinner alumni Bill Keith on banjo and Richard Greene on fiddle.
The promoter, Hiroshi Asada, had the foresight to have the concerts professionally recorded in hopes of issuing an LP. Now, nearly 35 years later, that vision is realized with the release of these stellar performances.
